HAIR TRENDS OF 2020

Updated: Oct 20, 2020

PINK HAIR is fresh, flirty and fab! Perhaps you have stuck to neutral colours and shades your whole life, or perhaps you are a daredevil who plays russian roulette with eccentric colours?

Whichever the case may be, 2020 is all about getting out of your comfort zone and trying something new.

Bubble-gum, fairy floss, flamingo, raspberry, we love all things pink!

Pick a shade, any shade, which pink shade will you pick?

(try saying that fast 10 times)

BALAYAGE is a red hot technique being used by skilled hairdressers around the globe! It may seem that the hair colour is ‘ombre’ at first glance. This is in fact correct.

There is a misconception that balayage and ombre are two different things, however this is not true. Ombre is the gradient of colour from dark to light and balayage is the hand painted technique used to produce an effortless blend between shades. The term comes from the French word "balayer," meaning to sweep.

Next time you book an appointment with your hairstylist at one of our salons, ask them to use the balayage technique to go a few subtle shades lighter or make a statement with a bold, bright colour like a pink or purple.

CURLY HAIR used to be a hassle that we would spend forever straightening or hiding our long locks up in a top bun. If this sounds like you and you have been waiting for a trend to make your life easier, your prayers have been answered!

2020 is screaming for you to LET YOUR HAIR DOWN!

Whether you have a chic short bob or a stream of long curls, you can now feel confident to go ‘el natural’ with your beautiful bouncy curls.

BLUNT BOB CUT. Nothing says high fashion more than a stunning, blunt bob cut.

A perfect haircut choice if you are wanting to enhance your professional look yet versatile enough to add texture and waves for a more casual feel.

THE PONYTAIL has made a HUGE comeback!

For a while there the majority of hairstyles that we saw were variations of down do’s, which is why we are stoked that the ponytail has not only come back into fashion but that it has fast become a style staple.

Usually those with short hair do not consider the ponytail as a go to style for them because of how low it would sit.

If this is you, well, have we got great news for you. ALL heights are on trend in 2020!

SILVER HAIR is on trend and here to stay!

Only a few years ago silver hair was categorized for the older generation, but in 2020 it has become a very popular colour choice for the younger generation.

Taking a modern twist on the classic platinum blonde bombshell, this new colour is edgy yet sophisticated.

The best part is that it makes ALL eye colours pop, especially with a gorgeous smoky eye.

BRAIDS are BIG!

No longer are they a fun hairstyle only worn by children, now us adults can wear them too!

If you are not a fan of the slick, tight braids try a loser braid pulling at sections for an effortless casual yet fashionable look.

Why stop at one or two? Get creative with your braids.

Nothing is too much in 2020!

HALF UP HALF DOWN has been a popular go to style for the last few years.

However, this year it is all about getting CREATIVE!

Try incorporating messy buns, different sectioning, countless braids, scarves, scrunchies even beads and rings!

MID BANGS. If you haven’t already heard, the 70’s have made a comeback in a BIG way!

Not only has this era influenced the fashion industry but the beauty industry as well.

Mid bangs are great for sculpting the face and especially for slimming the forehead.

Don’t worry about having perfect bangs that don’t move.

This style is best worn imperfectly with texture.

FACE CONTOURING. No, we are not talking about using makeup here.

As we know highlights and low lights add dimension and lift not only to the hair but facial features as well.

Face Contouring is when a lighter shade or colour is used as a highlight around the face.

You can keep it neutral and subtle or bold, vibrant and bright!
